"digital rape"

Maximum Sentence for Online Pedofile

Published torsdag 27 augusti 2009 kl 16.18
Prosecutor Thomas Bälter Nordenman

Uppsala District Court has sentenced a 33 year old Swede to 8 years in prison for online sexual offences with around 60 girls and young women. It’s the maximum sentence for such crimes in Sweden.

The man has lived with a partner and two children, but led a double life through chat sites and online communities, where he pretended to be a teenaged girl. According to the court, he systematically researched girls and young women aged between 11 and 20, before making contact.

In what prosecutor Thomas Bälter Nordenmann called “digital rape” he used persuasion and threats to get his victims to undress and perform sexual acts in front of their webcams.
