When Wolves Became Dogs

Published onsdag 2 september 2009 kl 20.21

Cats and dogs are our most popular pets, so domesticated that they can no longer easily live without humans.

Now a research team has looked at the DNA of Canis lupus familiaris, following the trail of the mutations back thousands of years.

Their conclusion, moderns dogs of all breeds, from collies and beagles to huskies and chihuahuas, are all descended from a group of wolves tamed in southern China, at the most 16,000 years ago.
