Hospital Investigated After Babies Die

Published torsdag 3 september 2009 kl 12.04

Doctors at Västerås Hospital knew that one of the babies at the ward for pre-mature babies had a multi-resistant bacteria. Still, it took almost 24 hours before the baby was isolated from other patients, according to the daily Aftonbladet.

In the meantime, the bacteria was passed on to other babies. In the end, three premature babies died at the hospital in August after being infected by the bacteria.

Representatives at the hospital say they were acting in accordance with common practice. The case will now be investigated by the National Board of Health and Welfare.
