Sweden lost to the Netherlands Antilles 10-8 Wednesday in the opening game of the Baseball World Cup qualifying tournament played in Sundbyberg outside Stockholm.

The game was close until the final innings, with the Antilles holding a 2-1 lead going into the 7th inning and a 4-2 lead going into the 9th. Sweden’s closing pitcher Niklas Melin gave up 6 unearned runs in the top of the ninth, including a grand slam home run by Jair Josepha. Sweden got them all back in the bottom of the inning, capped by a 3 run homer by Björn Johannessen.
