Toxic Jeans Can Cause Blues
The Swedish Agency for the Control of Chemicals has announced that many models of jeans trousers sold in this country contain partly high levels of toxic substances. In one brand inspectors detected the anti-mould chemical dimethylfumarate, DMF, exceeding the legal limit by 500 percent.
Other garments contained traces of quicksilver as well as allergy-causing substances. The agency tested jeans of seven different manufacturers, among them two American brands. Levi’s blue jeans, known as the original of all denim dungarees, were not tested.
