The Swedish Foreign Ministry has confirmed to Swedish Radio News that it is indeed the Swede Mehdi Ghezali who was captured in Pakistan. Ghezali was the only Swede imprisoned in America's Guantánamo Bay prison in Cuba, though he was released after two and a half years proclaiming his innocence.

Swedish news reports claim that Pakistani security police continue to question Mehdi Ghezali and two other Swedish citizens arrested in Pakistan on charges of illegally crossing the border and having contact with terrorists.

The Swedish security police have not yet been allowed to question the men. But British security police have already interrogated the trio and American colleagues are expected to do so soon.

News reports claim that the arrested men insist they were only on their way to a Muslim religious meeting.

Reports also claim that a Swedish woman travelling with the other three was there to help the group avoid being stopped by the police. She has been taken to another prison.
