Vattenfall Faces German Shutdown
A leading politician of the German Liberal Party, the Free Democrats, has demanded that Sweden’s national power company Vattenfall shut down both its nuclear power plants in Northern Germany. Jürgen Koppelin, leader of the Liberals in the federal state of Schleswig-Holstein, accused Vattenfall of permanent negligence in the maintenace of the Krümmel and the Brunsbüttel power plants.
Both nuclear facilities had to be taken off the net repeatedly because of numerous serious malfunctions. Koppelin told the news magazine “Der Spiegel” that Vattenfall had shown long ago that it was not trustworthy, and now its methods could not be tolerated any longer.
