Swedish Bank Cards At Risk After Hacking

Published tisdag 13 oktober 2009 kl 20.36

Personal information from thousands of Swedish bank cards may have fallen into the wrong hands after the card companies Visa and MasterCard were hacked recently. On Tuesday several Swedish banks started contacting customers that may be at risk, according to Swedish tabloid Aftonbladet.

How many cardholders that may be affected the companies are reluctant to say, but they stress that any customers who lose money will be refunded by their banks according to their policy. The Swedish banks started contacting their customers on Tuesday.

“We estimate that there are about 28 000 cardholders among our customers that may be affected, but how many of these need to have a new card is hard to say right now, “said Kerstin Ottoson, Communications Manager at Swedish Bank SEB.
