Are Swedish men a load of wimps?
The relationship between Sweden and Finland is a complicated one, something that has been much discussed in 2009, 200 years since the two countries split as part of a post-war deal. Now a Swedish translation of a Finnish novel has come out here stirring some strong reactions.
Playing with the love-hate relations between these Nordic neighbors, the humor-filled novel portrays a young Finn's fierce determination to become a real Swede, regarded by the tough and silent Finn as a soft, babbling and unmanly version of the Nordic male.
Finnish writer Miika Nousiainen has been visiting Stockholm to describe his novel, Hallonbåtsflyktingen, or "Raspberry Boat refugee" about his generation's changing attitudes about Swedes.
