It's a close run race ahead of next year's Swedish general election, according to the latest opinion polls, published Sunday. According to one set of figures the governing centre-right coalition is just in the lead over the red/green opposition. But according to another poll the opposition have a 5 point lead.

SIFO's poll puts the opposition parties on 49.2%, with the government on 44.4%. It also claims that the far-right Sweden Democrats would get into parliament if there were a vote today, gaining 4.7%, just above the 4% threshold to be guaranteed Mps in Sweden's version of proportional representation.

In another poll however, by the polling institute SKOP, the government gets 47.8%, with the opposition just behind on 41.1%.

Both polls show a slight increase in support for the opposition, according to news agency TT.
