Wallander's Town Gets Tourist Prize

Kenneth Branagh as Kurt Wallander

A fictional policeman has brought this year’s annual Swedish tourism award to the small town of Ystad, on the southern coast.

Fans of detective fiction may recognize the name as that of the home of Inspector Kurt Wallander, hero of books by Henning Mankell, and most recently brought to the screen in a BBC series, played by Kenneth Branagh.

Former national police chief Björn Eriksson, now head of the foundation that awards the prize, says Wallander has definitely put Ystad on the international map.
