Minister Suspects Food Price-Hiking

Frowns at grocery prices - Eskil Erlandsson

Food prices in Sweden are too high, says Eskil Erlandsson, minister for agriculture.

In an interview on national radio Erlandsson said: ”There must be something wrong with the system when grocery prices continue to rise while farmers get paid less for their products.”

Erlandsson and his colleagues in several neighboring countries have launched an investigation to determine what causes the discrepancies.

The minister suspects that food chain operators overcharge customers.

“I think a huge part of the money goes into their pockets,” Erlandsson said.
