Expensive Meat New Target for Thefts

Published tisdag 27 oktober 2009 kl 09.31

The Swedish shop owners' association reports a new wave of thefts troubling their members - organized raids on high-priced meat counters.

The thieves wear rubber diving suits under their clothes and stuff the plastic packages of prime beef and other meat inside the rubber so that they can't be detected.

Some of the shops say there is jubilation when they check with the cash register computers that a customer has really paid for the meat and some have taken the most expensive packages out of the unmanned counters - with customers now required to ask the shops butchers for their dinner.
