Moroccan Ambassador Called In

Published fredag 6 november 2009 kl 10.27
Saharan human rights activist Brahim Dahan has been awarded the Swedish Per Anger Prize

The Moroccan ambassador has been called to the Swedish Foreign Ministry, after Morocco ordered the expulsion of a Swedish diplomat.

The Moroccan authorities say the advisor at the Swedish embassy in Rabat turned materials she had received at a special briefing over to representatives of the Polisario Front liberation movement in the Western Sahara. Here in Stockholm, Swedish Radio News reports that the Moroccan ambassador was told that his country’s action is unreasonable and out of proportion.

The president of the Swedish Western Saharan support group says the Moroccans are just trying to punish Sweden for supporting the Sahara’s right to self-determination.

He points out that the Swedish government’s Per Anger Prize for humanitarian and democratic rights has been awarded this year to Saharan human rights activist Brahim Dahane.
