Published måndag 9 november 2009 kl 08.49

A goal in extra-time from Mattias Jonsson saved Djurgården's place in the top flight of Swedish football next season after a dramatic second-leg relegation/promotion decider against Assyriska at Stockholm's Stadion on Sunday. However the win was spoiled by suppporter violence as four players from Assyriska were punched on the pitch by invading fans.

Trailing 2-0 from the first leg against their promising chasing opponents from the division below, Djurgården levelled the scores in the second half of normal time with strikes from Jan Tauer and Christer Youssef before vereran Jonsson's match winner in extra-time.

It mean's that Assyriska stay in the superettan next season and Djurgården avoid joining fellow Stockholm side Hammerby there next season.

However the victory was spoiled by hooliganism as some Djurgården fans celebrating on the pitch immediately after the final whistle attacked four players from Assyriska. One player was taken to hospital with neck injuries. No arrests were made at the time and police are now studying tv footage of the incidents. A spokesman for Assyriska said that he hoped that the Swedish football association would take action against Djurgården, who have a known hooligan following.
