Cold wave

Additional Power Plants Needed

Published fredag 8 januari 2010 kl 15.07

Amid the ongoing cold wave in almost all of Sweden, operators of two power plants have announced they will increase their capacity. Swedish Radio news reports that the reserve plants in Karlshamn and Stenungsund will go on the net in order to prevent the danger of power shortages in Sweden.

Both extra-plants are driven by fossil fuels – a fact that has to be tolerated amid the extreme weather conditions, the operators Vattenfall and Svenska Kraftnät told Swedish Radio news. There has been criticism against energy companies letting several nuclear plants stand still and thus contributing to higher electricity prices.
