Al Shabab in Somalia

The Danish-Somali man who attacked Danish Mohamed cartoonist Kurt Westergaard in his home earlier this month, also tried to recruit young Swedes for the civil war in Somalia.

Danish daily newspaper Berlingske Tidende writes that the man was an active member of the Islamist organization Al Shabaab and in this capacity undertook attempts of recruiting young men of Somali origin in Sweden.

According to Berlingske Tidende Somalis in Sweden were surprised by the fact that he was able to proceed with his recruitment efforts so openly without the Swedish or the Danish security services interfering.
