Integration

Municipalities Criticize Government

Published tisdag 12 januari 2010 kl 11.09

The integration policy of the centre-right government is being criticized by its own parties’ members on the local level. In a signed article in the daily newspaper Dagens Nyheter, the centre-right local council of Solna rejects the government’s law reform on the integration of immigrants at the labour market as inefficient.

Previously, the responsibility to offer job opportunities to immigrants was lying with the local councils. But since the government’s law reform came into force, it’s the state employment service that takes care of immigrants. This reform will only complicate the integration process, Solna’s local council fears. They refer to their own figures showing that up to 80 percent of the city’s new immigrants can support themselves after one year.
