Telia Faces Massive Fines

Published torsdag 21 januari 2010 kl 13.09
Ohter operators want access to stations like this

The Swedish Post and Telecom Agency is imposing hundreds of thousands of dollars a month in fines on telecoms operator Telia, unless it lets other companies into its broadband copper network.

Telia is Sweden’s former public telephone company. Other operators offer DSL broadband, but Telia still owns the network they have to use.

Several months ago the post and telecom agency told Telia is would have to open up access in the copper wires between telephone stations and customers. Since that hasn’t happened, the company now has until February 15 to comply.

From that point on, Telia faces fines of around USD 430,000 a month.
