Link: Vitamin D and Colon Cancer
Studies in 10 European countries, including Sweden, have revealed that high levels of vitamin D mean a lower risk of colon cancer.
The results, which include a study from Umeå in northern Sweden, are being published in an upcoming issue of the “British Medical Journal”. Vitamin D deficiencies have been linked to bone diseases, but this is the first conclusive research associating the vitamin with cancer.
Vitamin D is found in fatty fish and dairy products, but is also produced by sunlight. This is a problem during the long dark Swedish winter. The researchers warn however, about the risks of overly high vitamin D levels from taking supplements.
