Fewer Weddings - and More Divorces

Published måndag 25 januari 2010 kl 14.38

Sweden's wedding fever seems to have broken. Until just this past year, Swedes were getting married like never before. This represented a sea-change for a country where many people opt never to marry at all, choosing to cohabitate as so-called "sambos" instead. But now weddings are down – and divorces are up.

Radio Sweden's Linda Nyberg interviewed Eva Knuts, professor of ethnology at Gothenburg University, who has researched weddings and marriage to try to understand the trend.
