Borg Expresses More Optimism

Sweden’s Finance Minister Anders Borg has presented more optimistic figures for the development of the country’s economy. Speaking at a press conference in Stockholm around noon on Wednesday, Borg said he expected the Swedish GDP to grow by 3.0 percent this year, 3.6 percent next year and 3.2 percent in 2012.

In previous prognoses, the Swedish government had expected significantly lower growth rates. According to Borg, the unemployment rate will rise to 9.5 percent this year and decline in the following years. Borg told the press that the latest figures for Sweden’s economy could imply a surplus in the state budget in the near future – giving more space for further financial reform measures.
