Demand to Lower Taxes for Pensioners

Faced with declining figures in the polls, Swedish Christian Democrat leader Göran Hägglund has added his voice suggesting the center-right government change policy and lower taxes for pensioners.

When the coalition took over three and a half years ago, they introduced a series of income tax deductions for wage-earners, as a means of encouraging people to work. Pensioners were not included.

With elections coming in September, Göran Hägglund tells Swedish Radio News that the tax gap between pensioners and those with jobs should be reduced. Earlier this week conservative Moderate Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt defended the policy. Hägglund says he thinks he can convince his coalition partners to change this positions.
