Can Sweden Afford Non-Alignment?
Sweden prides itself of conducting a foreign policy based on military non-alignment and had robust resources to protect that policy until recently. The policy helped to keep the country out of all wars since the middle of the 18th century and avoid the scourges of war. But in the last decade or so Sweden has dismantled its defence forces so much that it is being argued that the nation can no longer defend itself. We spoke to Social Democrat Foreign Policy Spokeman Urban Ahlin, and defence analyst Mike Winnerstig, from FOI, the Swedish Defence Research Agency.
