Wallander Good Business for Ystad

Published lördag 30 januari 2010 kl 18.12
Kenneth Branagh as Kurt Wallander

Kurt Wallander - the fictitious policeman in the books by Swedish crime writer Henning Mankell - has given the town of Ystad an added marketing value of 400 million US dollars, according to the daily Skånska Dagbladet. In the books, Wallander is based in Ystad, and the popular BBC version of the books, with Kenneth Branagh as Wallander, was filmed on location.

The incomes from tourism in Ystad has almost doubled since the first film was made. The town arranges special "Wallander-walks" but also hopes to attract the international film industry to shoot more films in the area.
