Swedish migration authorities have announced that they are once again hesitating to send asylum seekers back to Afghanistan - after reports of increasing violence there and the failure of the police and military to give adequate protection to civilians.

The Swedes had been sending some Afghanis back to some areas - especially in the northern part of the country - despite protests from critics here and abroad arguing that it is too dangerous to send refugees back to Afghanistan even in the far north where the level of suicide bombings and fighting was earlier considered lower than the rest of the country.
