Harder Punishment for Nursing Staff
Nursing staff will have to face harder consequences in the future if they fail to do their job properly. On Tuesday Social Minister Göran Hägglund presented his reform plans to the Council of Legislation, a judicial non-parliamentary body that pronounces on the legal validity of legislative proposals. Speaking to Swedish Radio news, Hägglund pointed out that 3,000 people die and 100,000 suffer from injuries in the Swedish nursing system every year.
With the planned reform, the government tries to ensure increased security for the patients, Hägglund added. Apart from harder punishments for nursing staff, the reform aims at uniting the review of the Swedish nursing system under one single roof – the National Board of Health and Welfare. Patients are also supposed to be enabled to report doctors and nurses who mismanage their job more easily.
