Job Scheme No "Lift"
Swedish Radio News reports that the government’s new job creation scheme seems to be falling far short of targets. While 40,000 new jobs for the unemployed were promised for this year, so far only 109 people have found positions.
The project, called Lift, was introduced at the beginning of the year. It creates short intern-like positions for the unemployed, to help them stay in contact with the labor market.
Lars Stjernkvist, of the Public Employment Service, who is in charge of signing up employers for the scheme, tells Swedish Radio News that so far only a few municipalities and other public authorities have taken on anyone.
