Lund Waiting for Margot Wallström

Published torsdag 11 februari 2010 kl 12.55

Outgoing Swedish EU Commissioner Margot Wallström seems next in line to take over chairing the board of the University of Lund. But not until next year.

The university says that Margot Wallström is the top candidate for the job. But, while Wallström welcomes the opportunity, she has just been named as the United Nations Special Representative on Sexual Violence in War. Because of the immediate pressures of the new position, she says she wouldn’t be able to take the post in Lund until the new year.

The university is proposing that the current chairman, Allan Larsson, stay on until the end of the year, rather than leaving the position in May.

The university’s proposals have to formally approved by the Swedish government. That decision is expected before the beginning of May.
