The TT news agency reports that Taliban guerrillas have taken responsibility for the attack on Swedish soldiers on Sunday that resulted in the deaths of two officers.

Javed Hamin Kakar of the Afghan news agency Pajhwok tells TT the announcement came from Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid, speaking to local media, as well as on the Islamist movement’s website.

A military plane carrying the bodies of the two Swedish soldiers arrived at Ärna airport outside the city of Uppsala Thursday evening. Defence Minister Sten Tolgfors and the Supreme Commander of the Swedish Armed Forces Sverker Göranson placed a gold medal of honor on each of the two caskets draped in the Swedish flag.

The family members of the dead soldiers stood around the airplane ramp with the soldiers' bodies as a military band played drums in the fog.
