Uproar About Goal Change in Aid
The Swedish government unveiled the “Council for Industry, Commerce and Development" in Stockholm today, a new agency with the aim of lifting the purpose of economic growth in Swedish development assistance. The decision was received with a healthy dose of skepticism, not least among the opposition.
When the government and its minister for development assistance decide that economic growth is a goal when assisting countries in need, it is bound to cause reactions. Criticism has come not only from the opposition, which ruled it out as a self gaining atempt, but also from more neutral organisations.
