Swedish Pilot Foiled Hijacker
A Swedish pilot is credited with stopping a hijacking in Portugal.
Mikael Andersson was flying a plane for the small airline Get High out of the airport in Cascais Friday, when one of the three passengers suddenly put a gun to his head.
He tells the newspaper “Aftonbladet” that he succeeded to wrestling the gun out of the would-be hijacker’s hand and flew the plane to a higher attitude so the other two passengers, who were skydivers, could jump put with their parachutes.
Mikael Andersson says the hijacker then grabbed the controls, but with the help of the co-pilot controls he could keep the plane in the air until he made a crash landing in Tires, outside Lisbon. Then, Andersson says, the hijacker shot himself.
