Pay Rise

Nurses Ahead of Teachers in Public Sector Wage Battle

Published lördag 13 mars 2010 kl 11.39
Teacher unions raring to go in upcoming wage negotiations

The teachers' wages have fallen behind, while nurses have done much better in the battle for the public sector wage increases, the news agency TT reports.

Between the years 2005 and 2008, the average increase in a nurse's salary was just over 14 %, while a teacher in upper secondary school had a pay rise of 6,3 %, according to Statistics Sweden.

In the upcoming wage negotiations, the teachers unions are therefore demanding higher wage increases than other groups. A few years ago, it was the nurses who were on the war path, even striking to make themselves heard.
