Swedish Skier Collides with Moose

Published fredag 19 mars 2010 kl 10.42

Swedish news headlines frequently report on highway collisions with wild life - especially the large moose or European elk - sometimes with fatal results both for the animal and the motorist.

But a highly unusual story concerns a moose and a man on cross-country skies - making his way over the tracks at night with only a head-strapped light to guide the way.

Unable to see very far in the distance, the skier saw the moose at the last moment and couldn't stop.

The collision left both of them startled but not injured.

The skier says the animal jumped over him after the collision - and he saw the moose standing by the tracks, watching him continue on his way.
