BP Heads Call for Svanberg's Exit

British newspaper The Independent writes that several high-ranking BP executives are calling for the resignation of the troubled oil company’s Swedish chairman, Carl-Henric Svanberg. According to the newspaper’s unnamed sources, Svanberg has damaged the company by keeping such a low profile throughout the growing spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

Calls for the departure of BP’s CEO, Tony Hayward, have also increased in tact with the growing oil spill. But unlike Svanberg, the sources say, Hayward still has support within BP.

Svanberg has only made one public appearance since the spill began six weeks ago, leaving Hayward to bear the grunt of the public relations nightmare. Svanberg’s inaction has turned the crisis into a catastrophe, one source told The Independent.
