Vilks Speaks Near Stockholm Mosque

Controversial Swedish artist Lars Vilks made a speech just steps away from a mosque in the Stockholm neighbourhood of Södermalm on Monday, as part of a demonstration for freedom of speech organised by the Council for Ex-Muslims in Scandinavia.
Vilks enraged some members of the Muslim community in 2007 with a caricature of the prophet Muhammed, and was recently assaulted at Uppsala University while giving a lecture there.
Under heavy police protection, Vilks maintained that what happened at the university was by no means characteristic of Muslims as a whole.
"We're talking about a small clique that shouldn't get the chance to expand," he said.
Vilks also declared that he's joined several Facebook groups against him, like "Kill Lars Vilks" and "We Who Hate Lars Vilks."
"I've become a member of all those groups," he told press after the speech. "All of them are intolerable, but some of them are ready to discuss."
