Vote Would Allow New Nuclear Reactors
The Swedish Parliament is expected to vote to lift a ban on building new nuclear power reactors. A lifted ban would go into effect at the beginning of 2011. Old reactors could be replaced by new ones as long as the total does not exceed 10, the current number of reactors in Sweden.
Key opposition members said they would accept the proposal after a change that created more liability for the owners of new reactors in case an accident occurred.
