Outcry over Deporting Children to Malta
Sweden's decision to follow the Dublin convention and send undocumented migrant children back to their first port of call in Malta, has caused an outcry in the government on Wednesday. Sweden's Red Green opposition have joined with the government coalition party the Christian Democrats to demand that the children be allowed to stay here in Sweden.
Christian Democrat parliamentarian Lars Gustafsson told Swedish Radio News that because being sent back to Malta carries risk for the children, Sweden should be obliged to examine their cases here. But Migration minister Tobias Billström has dismissed the criticism, pointing his finger back at Malta, and saying it must do its part to live up to requirements.
According to Swedish Radio News, refugee children who are sent to Malta don't have access to education or health care.
