Three Swedish Beaches Fail EU Test

Published torsdag 10 juni 2010 kl 17.46

Three Swedish beaches have failed an annual EU water quality test, reports news agency TT.

Out of 469 beaches tested, two beaches on Sweden’s west coast - Torekovs strand in Båstad and Hovåsbadet in Gothenburg – as well as Ängsholmsbadet in the Stokholm suburb of Täby were found to have intestinal bacteria in the water.

In general the quality of Swedish bathing water is ranked above the EU average with more than 98 percent of coastal areas passing annual tests compared to 96 percent in the EU as a whole, but Sweden has fallen behind in 2010 compared to previous years.
