Swedes Vacation in Sweden
This summer, Swedes are planning to spend 14 percent more money on their vacations than last year, according to a report released Friday by the Swedish bank Nordea. Now, they'll be splurging some 2000 dollars on their vacations, an increase of about 250 dollars since last year, but a vast majority of Swedes will be spending this money right at home in Sweden.
"For many, it's a tradition to visit relatives and friends, seek out their favorite haunts. It now seems a bit trendy to vacation in Sweden," said Nordea household economist Ingela Gabrielsson.
But perhaps sticking to Sweden is partly out of necessity. According to the study, many Swedish families--especially those with teenages--dream about going abroad. Gabrielsson said that she has seen a pattern over the years where more plan to vacation outside of Sweden that actually manage to do it.
