Airlines Try to Assuage Striking Pilots

Published måndag 14 juni 2010 kl 18.20

There is a glimmer of hope that Swedish pilots will call off a strike planned for Wednesday, but the decision is far from confirmed. The unions and the employers are still very much at odds about one key issue: the airlines' right to bring in temporary pilots through independent staffing companies.

According to news agency TT, the two parties met on Monday afternoon to try to iron out the details of a plan to avoid the looming strike, in which 2,000 pilots are geared to take part. The strike was originally planned for last Wednesday, but was postponed a week in hopes of reaching an agreement.

Such a strike would paralyze much of Sweden's flight corps, including some international flights with a Swedish destination.
