Kiruna Town is Moving
Much of Sweden's northerly town of Kiruna will be packing up and moving, as heavy mining has compromised safety in the existing city center.
While it has long been known that the city, which lies above the Arctic Circle, would eventually need to relocate, there has been disagreement about which compass direction it should move in.
The decision will be made in September, a week before national elections, according to news agency TT. But even after the decision is made, construction will not begin on Kiruna's new town for at least another two years.
