Nine of Sweden's top athletes have written an open letter to the Swedish government, demanding more funding ahead of the next Olympic Games.

The sportsmen and women, including Carolina Kluft, Therese Alshammar, Ara Abrahamian and curler Anette Norberg, say more money needs to be spent on the very best athletes, to give them a better chance to reach the podium.

The government doubled the Swedish Olympic Committee's budget this year to $3.5 million after complaints that the original figure wasn't enough, reports news agency TT.
