Swedish Town is fastest in Europe

Published lördag 21 augusti 2010 kl 15.50
While the internet may be fast up north, snow can sometimes bring other traffic to a standstill

The northern Swedish city of Umeå has the fastest internet in Europe, according to a survey by American company Akami. The average internet speed in Umeå is 10 megabytes per second (10Mb/s).

This puts the Swedish city 17th in the world - beating all US cities as well. All the cities higher up in the list are in South Korea and Japan. The fastest speed in the world is in Masan, South Korea, with an average connection of 16 Mb/s.

Sweden as a whole was number six on the list, with an average connection of 6.2 Mb/s (South Korea was first, on 12 Mb/s).
