Ripped Off Berry Pickers Return Home

Published söndag 3 oktober 2010 kl 10.16

More than one hundred Thais who came to Sweden to pick berries this summer have begun their journey home, with almost nothing for their work.

After two months of the hard work in the Swedish forests, the 160 Thais received less than 900 dollars each in pay. The rest of their wages disappeared when the head of the Lomsjö company emptied the company’s bank accounts and vanished.

Thirty-eight of the Thais are remaining in Sweden, hoping to somehow recover their lost wages.

After talks with Thai embassy personnel and the remaining employees of the berry company, the other berry-pickers are returning home, as their air tickets can’t be changed and their visas are running out.
