Small can be Successful

Published onsdag 6 oktober 2010 kl 10.46

A new report says that pupils in big cities are doing well in school - but that there are surprisingly small regions which are pulling up the national average.

For the third year running the Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Regions has looked at Sweden's municipalities - the smallest unit of local government - and seen how students there are doing in further education, or gymnasium.

The report shows that well-off areas with a highly educated population, such as Danderyd in Stockholm or Lomma in Skåneare topping the list. But so is the working class area of Tranemo, in western Sweden.

Plus there are good results for the very small municipalities of Eksjö, Gnosjö, Ydre and Arvidsjaur.
