Airline strike ends, but could resume next week

Published lördag 9 oktober 2010 kl 10.46
The aircraft engineer strike grounded a small percentage of flights.

The aircraft engineer strike affecting SAS Tech, Avia Express Sweden and Svenska Direktflyg will result in no cancelled flights on Saturday, according to Anders Lindström, an SAS spokesperson.

Lindström told news agency TT that out of some 500 scheduled flights on Thursday and Friday, 12 were cancelled, because the companies' airplanes could not be serviced.

The strike ends Saturday at noon. However, it may resume next week if the labor dispute between the engineers and the management association is not resolved.

The striking workers agitated for better protection against employers terminating the union's local contracts. Also, the employers are hoping to subject certain engineers to the same labor conditions as the mechanics get, something to which the union is opposed.
