New rules on stock ownership
The regulatory framework for healthcare staff and doctors employed by the county but own shares in private healthcare companies should be reviewed according to Liberal Party politician Maria Wallhager.
The announcement came after it became known that a doctor specialising in treating patients with cancer also works for a private company which charge cancer patients for treatment advice.
"This is something that has upset a lot of people. It is about the publics' trust for the healthcare system," said Left Party politician Håkan Jörnehed. "New rules must be presented which makes it impossible for senior doctors to have private interests in competing businesses."
Newspaper Svenska Dagbladet revealed on Tuesday that there are no laws regulating share possession for county employees.
