Outdoor activities popular in Sweden
Last year the average Swede spent about 2.000 dollars on outdoor activities and was prepared to spend even more according to a new study.
In total Swede’s desire to spend time outdoors gave 14 billion dollars in revenue to the tourism industry as well as companies that sell equipment for outdoor sports, news agency TT reports.
“This is the first time a study of this seize is done,” said Professor Peter Fredman from Mid Sweden University and author of the report.
Outdoor activities include everything from walking and running to ice-skating and skiing. The study shows that most of the activities starts from home, but skiing or diving trips are also popular. And we spend most of the money on equipment and clothes and the revenue for this industry has doubled since 2000.
“One interesting result is that those who don’t spend too much time in nature when they are young have more expenses compared to those who are used to be outdoors. Those who lack experience and knowledge might believe that they need a lot of expensive gadgets,” Fredman said.
The willingness to spend money on nature experiences also contribute to about 75.000 jobs and the industry could expand more. According to the survey people were wiling to spend a total of 5 billion dollars more.
