Teething troubles for northern link

Published lördag 16 oktober 2010 kl 11.51
King Carl Gustaf was there to open the new line

It is Sweden's biggest railway project of modern times, and was intended to link up the north and the south.

But the new railway line between the northern towns of Kramfors and Umeå has seen a large number of cancellations since it opened severn weeks ago, reports local paper Västerbottens-Kurrien.

Out of 350 planned departures, 30 have been cancelled.

The regional head of the Swedish train operator SJ says that the problem is due to the new signal system, and also a recent problem with a locomotive. He hopes that passengers have patience and keep using the line - a new engine will be brought in on 25 October.
